Driver's Seat

Driver's Seat

Driver's Seat is a branding and advertising campaign created in 2019 for a student design competition by You Can Now.

With the City of London's changing emissions laws, diesel cabs will soon be off the roads. This brief explored what alternative options LEVC could use for their iconic black cabs instead of sending them to a scrapyard.

With roughly 3,000 people sleeping rough on any night in London, these cabs can do some good. By turning the decommissioned vehicles into temporary shelters for the homeless, Driver's Seat expands across platforms to help those in need get back on their feet.

In 2019, this campaign was commended by YCN Student Awards.

By using tongue-in-cheek copy and positioning these cabs as 'hot real estate'  in a city known for its expensive housing, Driver's Seat playfully draws attention to the problem (rough sleeping) and the solution (providing shelters) by sucking the audience in with the promise of cheap real estate.

Driver's Seat also incorporated a free mobile app to be used for reserving available shelters, similar to Uber or other ride-sharing apps (just that these rides don't move!)
